Fun with Food and Song

Tonight, fun... music and food!

First a pretty crazy music experience. Then, some back and forth about food. Followed by a video about food in the UK, a couple exercises online, share recipes and boom - into to the kitchen!

Taking scones out of the oven
SCONES Recipe 
(not same as video)

Ingredients
  • 450 g flour
  • 8 flat teaspoons baking powder
  • 50 g sugar
  • just less than 1 teaspoon salt
  • 100 g cold butter
  • 3 dl buttermilk
  • (raisins, chocolate chips, dried cherries, cranberries…)

Method
  1. Preheat oven to 200C (fan assisted), 210C if not.
  2. Sift flour, salt and baking powder into a mixing bowl.
  3. Add cold butter and rub with fingers to make the mixture into fine breadcrumbs.
  4. Add the sugar and any supplementary ingredients such as sultana's, chocolate chips or cherries if you like.
  5. Slowly add buttermilk and mix with a knife. Keep adding buttermilk until you have a soft dough. You may not need all the milk so take your time.
  6. Turn dough out on to a floured surface and briefly knead. (Don't overwork the dough)
  7. Gently pat and push dough out with hands until 2.5 cm thick. (Do not press too hard or press/twist with rolling pin… Be easy on the dough)
  8. Cut dough into scones using a pastry cutter or glass. The number of scones depends on the size of the cutter/glass. A 5cm (2 inch) cutter will make 8 lovely large scones. You could do smaller scones in a different shape, like hearts.
  9. Put scones onto a greased baking sheet or baking paper.
  10. Brush tops with buttermilk.
  11. Place in the preheated oven for 8-12 minutes, or until risen and golden brown.
  12. Keep an eye on them.
